"The Best of Britain": EU Open House Day

Event Date:
Saturday, May 7, 2011 - 10:00am to 4:00pm

One week after the Royal Wedding, we invite the public to attend EU Open House Day at the British Embassy on 7 May.

With the theme "The Best of Britain", the Embassy will showcase different aspects of an innovative and dynamic UK and the partnership we share with the people of the United States.

Starting at 10am, the British Embassy will open its gates to the Washington public and host an interactive and family-friendly bazaar, with the opportunity to sample British food from Union Jack's British Pub, drink Macallan whisky, enjoy music and Shakespearian entertainment, those looking to continue celebrating the nuptials can partake in a princess parade for children, learn more about one of the couple's designated charities, Peace Players International, and watch footage of the Wedding.

Highlights include:

  • Little princesses are encouraged to come in their festival attire, meet the Embassy's princess and have a photo opportunity with her.
  • Enjoy traditional British food, drink and music, with whisky tastings by MacAllan and fare from Union Jack’s Pub – plus vocal groups and bands!
  • A tour of the Residence's symmetrical garden with double stairs and paths leading to the rose garden; lawns surrounded by trees including several planted by members of the Royal Family; information about fresh fruits and vegetables with Fresh Farm Markets.
  • The chance to learn about Britain’s culture with displays on the Royal Wedding and Britain’s famous landmarks.
  • Try out your athletic ability with soccer demonstrations and a sports video game stall.
  • Enjoy other child-friendly activities, including face painting, creating tiaras to wear, and writing congratulatory messages to the Royal Family.
