Opening Reception: Paradox of Masculinity with Painter Martin Swift

Event Date:
Thursday, July 25, 2013 - 7:00pm to 10:00pm

Curated by producer Micah Greenberg and photographer Katie Warren of GoKateShoot, figurative painter Martin Swift will show his provocative large scale paintings accompanied by a month of programming on the themes of masculinity and gender identity.

The free opening reception (RSVP here) is at Above the Bike Shop, an alternative arts space and incubator in Adams Morgan, and the show will run with accompanying programming from July 25-August 22.

Groundbreaking weekly programming will engage buyers and influencers and help to bring the exhibition to life.

Planned programming includes:

-A private drawing session presented with Michael M. Clements and ArtJamz where collectors will have the opportunity to sketch the artist himself
-An evening of performance art with Sheldon Scott and Armando López Bircann of the new, progressive performance art platform Animals & Fire
-A conversation on gender identity and sexuality in art lead by Jason Edward Tucker and Christopher Cunetto of the queer art collective Boys Be Good

The theme of masculinity will also be brought to life in the space itself in partnership with mens lifestyle brand MUTINY. Additional programming details will be announced prior to the show’s opening on July 25th and throughout the month.
