Online video footage can call into question both private sanctions and court decisions, as well as lead to broad public discussion of social issues. However, the persistence of information on the Internet and the inability to control what happens to that information raises many questions. While judges are required to allow the media access to digital evidence, what can or should the media do with it?

The panel includes judges, members of print, online and broadcast media, and defense and prosecuting attorneys, all responding to a hypothetical yet realistic case where the rights to privacy and a fair trial may clash with the public’s right to know and freedom of the press.

The event is organized by the Council for Court Excellence and is free and open to the public. RSVPs are required as seating is limited; go to https://scholars-scoundrels.eventbrite.com or email townsend@courtexcellence.org to register.
