THIRTEENTH INSTALLMENT OF CRAFTY BASTARDS ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR RETURNS TO UNION MARKET IN OCTOBER

Tickets Now On Sale for Two-Day Festival via Washington City Paper Website

More than 500 applications from all over the United States, Canada and the UK were submitted for the 150 coveted vendor spaces under the tents at this year’s Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair, which is set to return to the Union Market parking lot in Northeast Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016. Single day and weekend passes to the festival, now in its 13th year, are on sale via the Washington City Paper (WCP) website.

“The Washington City Paper has always promoted underground art and strives to connect the voice and vision of independent artists with our readers. This festival creates an experience where consumers can discover unconventional, hard-to-find arts and crafts, meet the artists, and even make something themselves,” says the fair’s curator Sara Dick. “There'll be surprises at every booth including unique home goods, clothing, punk-rock baby clothes, handcrafted jewelry, plush toys, DIY kits, screen-printing, original art, locally produced food, and much more!”

Attendees can start an art collection, get a jump on their holiday shopping, or just treat themselves to something they never knew they have to have at booths from long-time, popular Crafty Bastards, like DC-based muralist Kelly Towles, Fritz & Fraulein, Rocks and Salt, Jon Wye, DeNada Designs, and Marcella Kriebel. In addition, more than 50 first-time vendors will be participating in this fall’s fair, including:

  • Bright Beam Goods (Austin, TX)
  • Bernard Goods (Washington, DC)
  • Lost Life on Wax (Washington, DC)
  • Megan Auman (Jonestown, PA)
  • Off On A Tangent (Washington, DC)
  • T-WE Tea (San Francisco, CA)
  • On Hand Lotions (Naples, NY)
  • Grip Unlimited (Washington, DC)
  • LaLoupe (Baltimore, MD)
  • SaltyandSweet Design (Portland, OR)
  • Shorty Audio (Edgewater, MD)
  • Vaalbara Designs (Santa Monica, CA)

The two-day outdoor exhibition will run daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Union Market, located at 1309 5th St. NE, Washington, D.C. One-day admission is $6, with a two-day pass available for $10, if purchased in advance. Children 12 years old and younger will be admitted free. Crafty Bastards tickets are available online at washingtoncitypaper.com/craftybastards.

This year’s event is made possible in part by partnerships with Great Lakes Brewing Company – who will be sponsoring this year’s beer tent within the festival – Casey Trees, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, DC Public Library, Kramerbooks & Afterword Café, WagTime, Naked Décor, St. John’s Community Services, Health-Ade Kombucha, The Mountain Valley Water Company, and Honest Tea.
