The Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival returns as the signature folk festival in the Washington, DC area with headliners Spirit Family Reunion, Magic Giant and many more.  The festival will celebrate the community, local music, food and culture all on the beautiful Anacostia River.  In just a few years the festival has grown to become the largest all local music festival in the region, attracting over 13,000 attendees in 2014 and 2015.

The Festival will include six stages and eight hours of performances by over 40 local bluegrass, folk and Americana artists, games and outdoor beverages, DC’s favorite food trucks, outdoor bike course, free kayaking courtesy of REI, giveaways and a number of activities for children of all ages including a children’s stage with arts & crafts.  Festival sponsor REI will be bringing the REI Village, a celebration of the outdoor lifestyle (with special gifts for REI members).

WHEN:  Saturday April 30, 2016 from 12:00pm- 8:00pm

WHERE:  Kingman and Heritage Islands Park on the west bank of the Anacostia River. 

575 Oklahoma Avenue NE Washington, DC (entrance at RFK Stadium Lot 6).

Biking and metro are encouraged. A free shuttle will run from Stadium/Armory Metro Station. Parking is available in RFK Lot 6 for a fee.

WHY:  Proceeds from the festival benefit Living Classrooms’ educational programming as well as the continued maintenance of Kingman Island as an educational and recreational space for the community.  Living Classrooms Foundation strengthens communities and inspires young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training, using urban, natural, and maritime resources as “living classrooms.” Living Classrooms Foundation is a Washington, DC-Baltimore based nonprofit educational organization with a distinctive competency in experiential learning—literally learning by direct experience, or what we call “learning by doing.”
