Hello DC! We are super excited to finally announce a special summertime soiree that we've been working on: we're joining up with the Friends of Peirce Mill to bring you an evening of outdoor music & dancing in Rock Creek Park!

On Saturday July 23rd we'll fill the meadows and grounds of Peirce Mill with sweet old-time string-band music and southern Appalachian square dances. Bring a picnic, a blanket, croquet or bocce and stay & dance 'til the stars come out.

Peirce Mill is the last remaining 19th-century gristmill in DC, one of several that used to grind the wheat, oats, and corn for our city using waterpower from Rock Creek. It's been lovingly restored and will be open late so you can see how it all went down. Back in the day, the mill was also known to host dances, though we'll be dancing outside on the grass this time.

As always, no lesson, experience or partner needed. Everyone is welcome. With everything going on in the world lately, we could all stand to hold hands and dance with our neighbors a little more, don't you think?

Admission: It's free! Donations appreciated.

Rain Plan: Rain-or-shine unless the rain is torrential. Check the Facebook event for updates!

This dance is sponsored by the Folklore Society of Greater Washington and supported by a grant from the National Environmental Education Foundation / Toyota USA.

See y'all soon,
