In the 1913 poem Sacred Emily, Gertrude Stein wrote the line “Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose”. This sentence is often interpreted as meaning “things are what they are”. But are they really? From ancient mythology right through to contemporary culture, the word “Venus” has evoked different interpretations: beauty, desire, fertility, deity, and bright interstellar objects. For this experiment, our artists will transform the iconic Dupont Underground as they derive their own meaning from the prompt.

For the fourth iteration of the critically acclaimed creative experiments, Fathom takes on the historic subterranean trolley station, Dupont Underground.
Prepare for an immersive night of multi-disciplinary exploration. Experiment #4 will play host to a carefully curated selection of internationally acclaimed artists and musicians, capped with a headlining performance from the revolutionary DJ, Venus X.
Chosen to represent the forefront of innovation in their respective fields, our artists will have the opportunity to present their theses to some of Washington D.C.’s most trusted art thinkers, whilst guests are invited to explore the underground world of Venus.
