La Ligiére Wine Dinner with Winemaker Philippe Bernard

Biodynamic Wines from the Southern Rhone

On Wednesday, March 15th beginning at 6:30 pm, chef/owners Christophe and Michelle Poteaux of Bastille in Old Town Alexandria welcome La Liegére winemaker Philippe Bernard for a special five-course wine dinner featuring the pairing of dishes with the vineyard’s biodynamic wines at $89 (tax and gratuities not included).

The menu will include flan aux écrevisses--crayfish and crab flan, curry sauce and cucumber-coriander salad paired with Sud Absolu Dry Muscat 2015 (100% Muscat Petit Grains);  la terrine de volaille--pork and poultry pate, house baked roll, cornichons and two-mustard sauce paired with Sub Absolu Rouge 2014 (50% Carignan, 50% Syrah); la raviole au canard--

fennel-ricotta ravioli and duck ragout with Côtes du Rhône Les Costebelles 2015 (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre); les plats de côtes de boeuf--braised Angus beef short ribs, tomato and mushroom sauce, roasted sunchokes and carrots with Vacqueyras 2014 (80% Grenache, 20% Syrah); ending with Le Dessert--salted caramel tart, caramelized pear and  vanilla bean ice cream with MuscatBeaumes de Venise (100% Muscat).

Situated in Beaumes de Venise, Domaine La Ligière is a biodynamic vineyard which consists of 50 hectares of vines in AOC Vacqueyras.  It was established in 2008 by Philippe Bernard and his wife Elisabeth Serra.  The vineyard is planted with Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre vines that are about 50 years of age on average (and up to 75 years on the oldest plot).  Domaine La Ligière has been committed to cultivating their vines without the use of fertilizer, weed killer, or any chemical treatment whatsoever for over 10 years.  The soil is plowed regularly and fertilized with organic compost in the fall, and the harvest is protected only with the use of natural products such as sulfur, copper, plant infusions (nettle, horsetail, wicker, etc), and biodynamic preparations.

Bastille is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 am until 10 pm and Sunday 11:30 am until 9 pm serving brunch, lunch, dinner and all day dining with café and bar menu offered.  The restaurant is located in The Asher at 606 N. Fayette Street in Alexandria, VA, just two blocks from the Braddock Metro.  For reservations and further information log into www.bastillerestaurant.com or call 703-519-3776.
