The Royal & Guest Bartender Eddie Kim Host One-Night Cocktail Pop-Up “Yozakura Nights” Celebrating Cherry Blossoms + Japanese Drinking Culture on Monday, March 13

Honoring the Japanese tradition of nighttime cherry blossom viewing, The Royal in LeDroit Park celebrates illuminated sakura with Japanese and cherry-inspired cocktails at guest-bartended monthly industry night on 3/13

As Washington, DC’s cherry blossoms begin to bloom, The Royal in LeDroit Park is celebrating the Japanese tradition of yozakura (nighttime viewing of the sakura flowers) with a one-night cocktail pop-up on Monday, March 13 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The latest edition of its monthly “Royal Knights” industry night series, “Yozakura Nights”will collaboratively showcase Japanese cocktail ingredients and unique cherry liqueurs, teas and syrups, from guest bartender Eddie Kim, who has manned beverage programs at Daikaya, Room 11 and co-founded the Japanese drinking pop-up Bar Otsukare, and The Royal’s new bar manager Andrew Larsen.

Yozakura is the tradition of viewing the cherry blossoms at night (versushanami, meaning daytime viewing). With the pink and white blossoms aglow, hundreds of thousands in Japan gather for evening picnics under the illuminated blooms, eating and drinking with friends and family in a magical atmosphere.

The Royal’s bar will be illuminated in twinkly lights, petals and handmade origami, while Kim and Larsen have created eight specialty cocktails (all $8) for the night, highlighting unique cherry flavors such as smoked cherry wood, cherry bark bitters, cherry blossom tea, cherry-flavored bourbon, and orchard cherry liqueurs; along with Japanese shochus, plum wines, sakes, and more. They will also offer a special menu of creative Sake Bombs pairing craft sakes and beer, plus other surprises.

This is part of The Royal’s “Royal Knights” event series, where on the second Monday of each month, they focus on a new batch of craft spirits, lesser-known liqueurs, and the creative people who make them, hosting guest-bartenders from around the country and introducing guests to creative new brands in the booze industry.

Next month’s “Royal Knights” will take place on Monday, April 10th with a theme to be announced shortly.

The Royal’s monthly “Royal Knights” industry nights are free and open to the public, running from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the second Monday of every month. Details for subsequent “Royal Knights” nights will be announced closer to each event. For more information, please call 202-332-7777.
