Chef David Guas loves honey in all its forms, and Mead is no exception. To reacquaint the public with what was once known as the nectar of the gods, Guas will be hosting a Mead & Greet Happy Hour with Charm City Meadworks, and offering free tastings and bites on Friday, June 8, 2018, from 4-6PM. It’s a scrumptious celebration of the summertime patio-season at Lil’B Coffee & Eatery, in the heart of DC’s Scott Circle.
In collaboration with Charm City Meadworks, guests can sample sips of mead outside on the patio, and can head inside to purchase the special mead-based cocktail at the happy hour price of $10 - the Mead Melon-Ade, refreshingly crafted with Mead, freshly made Honeydew Melon Juice, Lime Juice, and Honey-Ginger Syrup. To complement the tasting, snacks such as Local Virginia Cheese, Charcuterie, and locally-grown Fruit will be served to those who purchase one or more cocktails during the entire Mead & Greet.
Charm City Meadworks' owner Andrew Geffken will be on-hand, chatting with all who come by for tastes. “Meet the Maker” as he provides samples of both his still and carbonated drafted mead.
Mead is a beverage of fermented honey, brewed since ancient times. Long associated with love and fertility, mead is the source of the word 'honeymoon' ['nuff said?]  It was favored for its effervescent qualities and subtle flavors by civilizations ranging from the Romans to the Aztecs to the Vikings. In this part of the world, it is the passion of Guas’ good friends at Charm City Meadworks out of Baltimore, whose varieties include Rosemary, Sweet Blossom Still Mead, Basil Lemongrass, or Wildflower — if there was a champagne of meads, this would be it.
Stop by Lil’B Coffee & Eatery under the massive umbrellas from 4-6PM on Friday, June 8, and begin the evening with a refreshing start!
