Floral Spirits, Blossom-Infused Liqueurs & Edible Flower-Topped Tipples at the Royal’s “April Showers Bring May Flower {Cocktails}” Pop-Up on May 14 with Guest Bartender of Republic Restoratives

LeDroit Park cocktail bar continues its spirits exploration series “Royal Knights” on 5/14 with Peony-infused brandy, Chrysanthemum shrubs & floral teas from special guest Emily Filkins of DC’s Republic Restoratives distillery

WASHINGTON, DC (May 8, 2018) – Washington, DC’s long-delayed spring saw many rain showers in the month of April. But those April showers gave way to beautiful blossoms and flourishing flowers. For the latest installment of its monthly “Royal Knights” spirits and cocktail exploration series, Royal in LeDroit Park is serving floral cocktails inspired by the city’s beautiful blooms, at “April Showers Bring May Flower {Cocktails}.” On Monday, May 14 from 9pm to 1am, the one-night cocktail pop-up will feature 4 creative $8 edible flower-infused and –topped tipples from guest bartender Emily Filkins, bar manager at Republic Restoratives and its distillery tasting bar Ivy Room, in collaboration with Royal’s bar manager head bartenders Jake Kenny and Alonzo Freeman.

Filkins, Kenny and Freeman each get creative with floral spirits, blossom-infused syrups and edible flower garnishes. Peonies get infused into Singani, a Bolivian brandy, roses and lavender get infused into house syrups, and Chrysanthemum flowers are even paired with ripe strawberries to make a homemade shrub.

Filkins, who currently serves as bar manager at DC’s own Republic Restoratives distillery and its tasting bar Ivy Room, combines roses and lavender with Republic Restoratives’ own locally-made Civic Vodka and Borough Bourbon, in the following cocktails:

  • COMING UP ROSES, with Civic Vodka, Rose Syrup, Cucumber Water and Lemon
  • THE BLOOMING-DALE, with Borough Bourbon, Lavender-Vanilla Syrup and Lime

On behalf of the Royal, Kenny and Freeman infuse peonies into Bolivian brandy, make chrysanthemum shrubs and steep hibiscus tea, in the following cocktails:

  • GARDEN MILK PUNCH with Peony-infused Singani, Hibiscus Tea, Ruby Port, Kubler Absinthe, Lemon, Cinnamon and Milk
  • MUMS THE WORD with Strawberry-Chrysanthemum Shrub, Thatcher’s Vodka, Amaro Sfumato Rabarbaro, a smoky rhubarb amaro, and Grapefruit

Other evening specials include $3 canned brews from beer sponsor Atlas Brew Works, $6 boilermakers and $10 handmade roasted chicken and vegetarian tamales, served until 1a.m.

This is part of The Royal’s monthly “Royal Knights” event series, where on the second Monday of each month, they focus on a new batch of craft spirits, lesser-known liqueurs, and the creative people who make them, hosting guest-bartenders from around the country and introducing guests to creative new brands in the booze industry.

Next month’s “Royal Knights” will take place on Monday, June 4th, celebrating National Cognac Day.

The Royal’s monthly “Royal Knights” industry nights are free and open to the public, running from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the second Monday of every month. Details for subsequent “Royal Knights” nights will be announced closer to each event. For more information, please visit www.theroyaldc.com or call 202-332-7777.
