Blossoming with Buick

Cherry blossom season is upon us, bringing a variety of blossom-themed events and activities. We recently joined the folks at Buick for a day full of flowery fun!

Our day started with a chauffeured ride to the Tidal Basin in the new 2014 Buick Verano Turbo. With a full suite of safety features, ten standard airbags, and the StabiliTrak stability control system, the Verano Turbo offers more power and torque at a lower price than other cars in its class.

Once at the basin, our friendly guide from Washington Walks led us on the “Blossom Secrets Stroll.” As we walked, we learned about the dedication of Mrs. Eliza Scidmore, who first conceived of bringing cherry blossom trees to DC from Japan in 1885. It took 27 years for her vision to be fully realized, but we now can enjoy the blossoms during their brief peak bloom each year (slated between April 8-12 this year). Although it was a tad early for the Yoshino cherry trees around the Tidal Basin, we were able to enjoy the beauty of the Weeping Higan cherry tree in the Moongate Garden on the grounds of the Smithsonian Castle.

After our tour, we piled into a roomy 2014 Buick Enclave to head to lunch. With three rows of seating and generous cargo space, we were able to comfortably accommodate our group of seven.  This luxury crossover SUV’s six-speed, 288hp 3.6L V-6 engine powered us to The Source by Wolfgang Puck in no time.

Once at The Source, we were led into the restaurant’s private dining room, elegantly decorated with cherry blossom branches and bathed in pink light. There, we enjoyed a multi-course meal prepared by The Source’s Executive Chef Scott Drewno. Standout dishes included savory stir-fried chicken with crispy rice and garlic chili aioli served in lettuce cups and Tahitian sour cream cheesecake in a pinenut crust, served with macerated mango and orange-laced sour cream.

Want to experience some blossom fun yourself? Check out several blossom-themed events in the days ahead, including this week’s National Cherry Blossom Festival Event at Brooks Brothers, the 2nd Annual Cherry Blossom Chase, and next weekend’s Cherry Blossom Family Celebration.
