Just in time for every fashion lover's favorite time of the year, Current Boutique in Arlington is expanding its footprint and moving to a chic new space at 2601 Wilson Blvd that is more than double the size (2500 square feet) of the original store. With four DC-area locations (including Logan Circle, Bethesda, and Old Town Alexandria) and an online e-commerce store, the designer consignment store plans to significantly increase inventory, double the amount of staff, provide more dressing rooms, and feature additional parking spaces in the larger Arlington space .
Current’s owner and founder, Carmen Lopez (pictured, top) who launched the designer consignment business in 2007, recently gave us the scoop on what clients of the local consignment favorite can expect. The new Current Arlington store is expected to open in early September with a (re) launch party on Thursday, September 17! Stay tuned for launch details on our website!
Q: How did the idea to expand the Clarendon space come about? What changes can clients expect for the DC, Bethesda, and Alexandria locations?
Carmen Lopez (CL): Long lines for the dressing rooms and crowded workspace for employees had us craving a larger space. You can expect to see an upgrade in the interior space of our boutiques. You will also see an increase of designer items in our stores as we grow our consignor base each year.
Q: What are some of the changes/main features of the new space? What can regular clients of Current (like myself!) expect to see?
CL: We will have more dressing rooms to prevent waiting in lines. We will also have 6 parking spaces for customer/consignors. Most importantly, we will have a larger space for more AMAZING inventory.
Q: (Besides the Clarendon expansion) What are some additional future plans for Current on the horizon?
CL: Our online store has doubled its sales from the first year so we will continue to focus on keeping up with that growth. We are also always looking for a new neighborhood for the next Current Boutique.
