December Style Highlights: Shopping, Pop Ups, Gifts, Oh My!

No “Year in Review” lists found here! We still have plenty of holiday shopping to do, cocktails to sip and events to attend!

For last minute holiday gifts, shop local at holiday markets: Rosslyn Holiday Market Festival & Bonfire, 4th Annual Artists & Artisans Holiday Extravaganza, Sip & Shop Sample Sale, Deck the Halls 2nd Annual Holiday Market , and a “Totally Bazaar” holiday market, hosted by our friends at Yelp! Drank too much eggnog at the office party or recovering from a latke-induced food coma and slept through these events? No worries! You can still find plenty of local treasures through December at Lab 1270 at Union Market and (one of my personal faves) the 11th Annual Downtown Holiday Market. And for that very special gift, pay a very special visit to DC's historic (& newly expanded) Tiny Jewel Box (pictured, top).

If you are still in need of some gift-spiration, check out Free Country, which has plenty of options for winter adventurer styles and accessories. Free Country’s Butter Pile Throw Blanket (photo 2) is super soft, cozy, and machine washable! For sustainable fashion lovers on your list, consider The Twitten (photo 3),  a women-owned, fair trade line of hats, gloves (love the Grey Short Cabled Fingerless gloves!), mittens, scarves, legwarmers, and more based in New Mexico!  The Twitten line is handcrafted in Peru by artisans whose work sustains traditional communities and 20 percent of profits go to the Bodhi Fund, which provides financial aid to families in New Mexico who must travel out of state for their children's medical care. For the beauty product junkie, Japonesque will get them party ready with primers and highlighters. Love the Radiance Primer for an instant luminous glow!

With all this shopping, you’ll surely need a cocktail break! Luckily, there are plenty of options around town for spiked eggnog, Manischewitz (yup, that’s right), hot chai cocktails, and beyond. A holiday must is Mockingbird Hill’s first annual pop-up Christmas bar (pictured, bottom) that features holiday themed happy hours, Manischewitz Pong, holiday movie nights, and a full holiday cocktail menu!  Bibiana offers the Classic Eggnog with a Twist made with Pedro Ximénez, Benedictine and Buffalo Trace, as part of their “25 Cocktails of Christmas” countdown to December 25. Last, but not least, Mixologist Elli Benchimol of the Rye Bar located in the Capella Hotel in Georgetown has created new winter cocktails like the Speyside Chai, made with a homemade Rooibos Tea spice base, Singla Rivesaultes and scotch. Be sure to try Benchimol’s other creations, like the Autumn Punch, Oaxacan Winter, and The Cure (to cure the hangover blues).

Check out more December events and happenings here. Now, off you go, as the Brits say!
