Spring Into Fitness and Wellness!

I’m what you’d call a bit of a fitness/health/wellness trends junkie. And what a better time to try these trends or a new class/activity than springtime when it is all about renewal, warm air (finally!), and celebrating our favorite (and only live-able, last I heard) planet, Mother Earth! Of course, the prospect of showing more skin has its motivation, not going to lie! And this spring, there is no shortage of fitness/wellness events and products out there that go beyond your usual green juice and running clubs!

From bike parties to urban gardening to plenty of yoga, start marking your fitness calendars now! There is the Bikes, Baristas, and Beer (how we roll) event hosted by Southwest DC venue, District Hardware and Bike. District Hardware and Bike will also host “Gardening in the City” classes this month, as well as bike maintenance and repair, happy hours and yoga classes. Also in Southwest DC, there’s the “SW Earth, Arts, and Music Day” which kicks off the fifth year of the SW Community Garden. Later in April, head over to, “Cactus Makes Perfect: Plant Nite for StreetWise Partners” at Exiles DC where you can learn the terrarium building process while helping StreetWise Partners!

When it comes to yoga in this city, no secret that there are more than plenty of regular events to choose from like Yoga Mondays at BicycleSpaceDC and Sip + Savor Yoga Mondays at Wundergarten, For yoga in some interesting locales, there’s Yoga at the National Press Club, Practice with Love Pop Up Yoga at the US Botanic Garden , Yoga in Luce at the Luce Foundation Center for American Art, and Daybreaker DC Yoga and Dance Party at the Renwick Gallery (see photos from their March event). Looking for something even more off the beaten path? Then try Yoga with Goats in Maryland-hands (or hooves) down the most adorable option! Needing a bit more zen in these trying times? Then try Tai Chi + Tea at the Shop Made in DC. Finally, if you want brunch with your rooftop yoga, all while enjoying one of THE best views in the city, then  POV Brunch Fuel on Sundays is for you!

Whether we’re running along the waterfront, the National Mall or practicing yoga in a studio with TONS of mirrors, we all want our style to be en pointe, so check out the latest in cool activewear, like Evicii Athletica leggings, tops, pants and shorts, and Farm to Feet hiking socks, where every pair sold benefits the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. For practicing yoga that is sustainable and eco-friendly, there’s Corc Yoga Mats (pictured) which are crafted from 100% organic cork from Portugal and naturally antimicrobial!

Collagen is everyone’s favorite (sort of) new wellness craze and one that I am personally obsessed with! Plump glowing skin, shinier hair, stronger nails, and less post-running muscle soreness?  No brainer!! Bubs Naturals collagen peptides come from sustainably sourced, grass fed, pasture raised peptides and aims to support joint health, promote faster workout recovery periods, and improve digestive health. A portion of Bubs Naturals’ sales benefit the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation, which helps Special Operations soldiers transition to civilian life primarily through scholarships. Bubs Naturals also donates 100% of their proceeds to the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation on Veterans Day. For a collagen fix that is super convenient and travel-friendly,  there’s Skinade, a once daily (bottle and travel sachet, pictured) natural peach and mangosteen flavored hydrolysed marine collagen drink that is a staple at many skin care experts’ offices and area  spas (including Argentta Spa in the Watergate Hotel). Skinade combines both wellness and beauty, and contains vitamins B/C, organic flaxseed oil, L-lysine amino acid, msm organic sulphur, and is meant to improve the look/ feel of skin in 30 days, as well as reduce joint pain.

Now get out there and enjoy the spring-before the weather changes. It IS Washington, DC, after all!
